It is common for instances of domestic abuse to be dramatized in the media. While any exposure to signs of domestic abuse is a good thing, it is important to realize that signs of domestic abuse can be more subtle than direct physical attacks.

You fear your partner to some extent

Even if you are confident that your partner would never hurt you physically, it is likely that you are in an abusive relationship if you are fearful of your partner. For example, if you are worried about getting home later than expected because of what your partner will say, or you are scared of making a mistake because it will initiate an angry response, this is toxic. You should always feel safe and supported when you are in a domestic partnership.

You often feel humiliated or objectified

In relationships, we should all feel protected and supported. If you are not treated as an equal in your relationship, it is important that you take steps to protect yourself and your children.
